1.Our commitment
The NALL Institute is committed to making thenallinstitute.com usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology.
Nall's work was made to be seen. We would rather it reach more people than fewer.
2.The standard we work to
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium.
WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the technical standard adopted by the U.S. Department of Justice under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act for state and local government entities, including public colleges and universities. The compliance date for public entities serving populations of 50,000 or more is April 26, 2027. As an entity wholly owned by the Troy University Foundation, we are aligning our work to that standard and that timeline.
3.What we have done
- Text alternatives for images, including descriptive alt text for artwork
- Keyboard navigation across all interactive elements, including the A-EYE NALL interface
- Color contrast meeting or exceeding AA thresholds for text and interface components
- Visible focus indicators
- Semantic heading structure and landmark regions
- Descriptive link text
- Form labels, error identification, and error suggestion
- Responsive layout supporting zoom to 200% without loss of content
- Captions for video content
4.Known limitations
We would rather say this plainly than pretend otherwise.
- Archival material. Some historical documents, letters, and exhibition ephemera are presented as scanned images. Not all have full text alternatives yet. We are working through the archive and prioritizing frequently accessed material. If you need an accessible version of any specific item, ask us and we will produce one.
- Embedded third-party services. The NALL Boutique runs on Shopify, and some video is served by third parties. We do not control their code. We have raised accessibility with our vendors and we evaluate it in vendor selection.
- AI-generated portraits. Images produced by the portrait feature cannot be given meaningful alt text in advance, because we do not know what they will contain. The interface describes what the feature does and provides text status updates during generation.
- Older content. Some material published before this statement has not yet been fully remediated.
5.If something is not working
Tell us. We will fix it, and in the meantime we will get you the content another way.

- the page or feature
- what happened and what you expected
- your assistive technology and browser, if you know them
We will acknowledge within 2 business days and give you a plan or a timeline. If you need specific content in an accessible format — a described image, a transcript, a plain-text version of a document — say so and we will provide it, at no cost to you, regardless of where the underlying remediation work stands.

Accessibility is not a one-time project. We include it in design and development review, evaluate it when selecting vendors, and re-test after significant changes.
